Junior Teams Lead Coach
Job Description
Summary: To align with the policy and procedures set forth by the Mission Viejo Nadadores and to develop 14 & under athletes as they transition from Swim School lessons to the competitive team. Help athletes realize an uncompromised commitment to the pursuit of excellence, through the process of striving to be the best that they can be, to acquire life enhancing attributes such as integrity, discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Embrace and advocate the Mission Viejo Nadadores Culture
Passion for coaching and working with developing athletes
Prepare meso/micro cycles for Junior Team athletes to advance through to year-around competitive team
Schedule secondary and assistant coaches for coverage
Work/Communicate with Team Operations Director and Swim School Director on pool scheduling needs
Works with Swim School to conduct evaluations for new athletes to join Junior Team
Be a collaborative/communicative bridge between swim school and competitive team, working to set entry and exit requirements for Junior Teams
Biomechanical understanding of stroke development with an emphasis on proper technique focused on biological age development
Understanding of dynamic movement prep and some dryland training for age appropriate exercises.
Plan, prepare, and conduct group practices daily in accordance with our curriculum for the Nadadores
Plan and hold monthly parent meetings to educate new families on expectations and requirements. Provide an exit parent meeting prior to redeployment to competitive team.
Provide detailed feedback to athletes and parents at regular intervals
Track practice and pre-competitive meet performance to continually assess readiness to move to competitive team
Plan, organize and execute monthly MVN hosted Intrasquad Junior Team meets and collaborate with Team Operations Director on pool needs schedule.
Assist with MVN Staff in facilitating Events (MVN hosted or community events)
Commit to continued coaching education
On Job Time Requirements:
Attend all assigned staff meetings
Arrival at practice and meets at minimum 15 min prior to arrival of athletes
Will require afternoon, evening and weekend hours
Communication:
Communicate all actions regularly between Team Operations, Business Operations and Executive Director
Excellent email communication to parents with timely response (within 24 hrs)
Continually assess goals with athletes and communicate to parents in a patient and respectable manner
Professionalism:
Model proper dress, language, demeanor and sportsmanship for the athletes
Create an educational, safe and inviting experience for all participants
Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises 3-5 employees within the Junior Team department.
Work in collaboration with additional hiring as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Certificates required: CPR/AED, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, APT, Background check and in good standing with USA Swimming
Abides by applicable USA Swimming Codes of Conduct and Safe Sport Requirements
Computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite, Team Unify familiarity. Preferred knowledge of Meet Manager.
